About ADVANTAGE High Camshaft
The reason why ADVANTAGE started to produce Hi-Cams is because the aftermarket was losing Hi-Cams and stock Hi-Cam parts and many items were disappearing from the market.
I wanted to keep the high cams made in Japan, and that's how I started.

With the boom of vintage models, more and more people are choosing to overhaul their cars and choose high camshafts.
In the case of vintage models, you may have to replace the piston or the sleeve.
The definition of high camshafts is that they have a larger valve lift and valve overlap than the stock cam profile, but they have been used for racing machines, and in recent years, there are people who participate in drag racing and taste. In recent years, there are people who participate in drag racing and taste.
It is officially called a high lift camshaft.
In recent years, the difference of camshafts between Japanese models and overseas models (for export) has become less, but until a little while ago, vehicles for overseas models were more powerful than Japanese models, and there was a time when the tuning method of incorporating the camshaft of the full power destination was popular. There was a time when the tuning method was popular.Until around 2000, export-spec models were sold in Japan with power reduced to meet Japanese voluntary horsepower regulations, but the engine and other hardware were gradually standardized, and detuning by CDI remained.
In general, installing high camshafts will have the same effect as enlarging the intake and exhaust ports due to the increased overlap and valve lift, so in general the torque will be weaker in the low to mid RPM range, but of course the performance will improve in the high RPM range.
This is the reason why it goes well with the big bore. First of all, it is not necessary to use the high camshaft on the street to reduce the low speed, but to use the high camshaft more effectively, it is necessary to increase the compression ratio and big bore.
What is ADVANTAGE goal with High-Cam?
This high camshaft is made by a Japanese manufacturer.
This is the last chance for the technology that is being lost from Japan to overseas.
It takes a lot of time and effort for development, but this manufacturer wants to commercialize the cams that they are aiming for.
The direction and aim of our Hi-Cam is Stage 1.5 as the name of the product says.
ADVANTAGE wanted to produce a hi-cam that can be used from the street to racing such as the Taste, because there is no regulation that it is neither stage 1 nor stage 2.
As a matter of course, Advantage focused on the sticking length of the valve spring.
It's about how far you stop at the max lift.
Even if the camshaft height is 1mm higher than the high camshaft of other manufacturers, if there is still room to reach the maximum lift, which is referred to as the adhesion of the valve spring, there will be no problem even if the camshaft height is a little higher.
Advantage don't want to make the valve springs too stiff.
If the valve spring becomes too hard, it may cause resistance to the engine rotation. However, there is an appropriate hardness for the valve spring, and Advantage does not want to create resistance to the camshaft rotation by strengthening the spring too much.
A unique product was needed with settings that never causes a big loss and surging
Even racers have reduced the spring rate of the valve springs in the past to reduce the rotational resistance.
There are cast iron and chromoly materials, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
This time, most of the camshafts are made of machined chromoly (GPZ900R is made of chill casting), so can make camshafts with high freedom of design.
As an image, the valve opening timing can be sped up by widening the front side of the camshaft in the direction of rotation, and to delay the valve closing timing by widening the rear side in the direction of rotation.
In extreme cases, it is like changing an oval camshaft to a trapezoidal one, but of course these operations are not one-size-fits-all, but by changing the valve timing of both the intake and exhaust, the valve overlap can be changed to a greater extent.
In this case, ADVANTAGE uses chromoly steel and harden it, and then machine it.
In some cases, the phase of the top of the cams will be shifted to change the profiles.
Basically, in order to make more power, the purpose is to increase the valve opening time, so that more mixture can be sucked in and more exhaust gas can be exhausted. However, this is not the same as setting the camshaft to high lift.There are always advantages and disadvantages.
In our opinion, when it comes to tuning any engine, the equation is always (carburetor + exhaust + high cam).
It is not an exaggeration to say that without the high camshaft, tuning would not be possible and power would not be produced at all.
That is why our trust in camshafts is so great and our dependence on them is so high.
"What is the process of commercialization?
Be careful, because what is good for a short test drive may cause fatal wear after thousands of kilometers.
In the past, as far as I can tell, custom hi-cams and race hi-cams were two completely different things.
It will be difficult to spread in general unless it is easy to ride, easy to handle, and has low difficulty in tuning.
However, not only the peak power, but also the ease of handling and the ability to run fast on the racing course are important. All of our racing parts are designed to make you run faster.
If you look at the definition of high cams on the street, you will see that it only focuses on the height of the camshaft.
It seems that most of them are 0.5mm-1.0mm higher in the height direction.
In the US, drag racing is very popular and many parts suppliers put a lot of parts into it, so the line-up is not comparable to Japan.
The distance between the user and the racing world seems to be very close.
Some of the high camshafts made in other countries are from drag racing and the height of the cam is surprising.
I was like, "Why don't you just put the gas pedal back in the drag?" But it's not a good idea to use these.
Some users want to install the racing version, but the over-specification is not worth the price from the point of view of the balance between the cost and the purpose of use.
If you install over-spec high camshafts, you should keep in mind that it is not an easy thing to handle on the public road.
In view of this, we would like to make it easier to handle for street or semi-racing use as an advantage.
